However, for freelance writers, it may mean a completely different thing.
The holidays are a special time for family, but when you are your own boss, sometimes it can be hard to detach yourself from your computer to spend time celebrating the holidays.
We can say: Oh! I'll just send one or two e-mails, and talk to two clients right before thanksgiving dinner. No harm! But in reality, it can be REALLY, REALLY hard to tear yourself away from your computer long enough to enjoy your dinner, and talk to your guests.
So, Should writers work during the holidays?
Well, in all honesty, I'm sort of planning to, but I am really looking forward to spending some one-on-one time with everyone I have been ignoring due to my super crazy schedule.
It can be hard to not work, especially when you have "spare" time during the holidays. After all, whats the harm in checking your e-mails while you wait for dinner, or applying for one or two jobs during commercials? Nothing!
But then again, you are supposed to make your own schedule, and make time for all of the important things during the year.
Working during the holidays is a long-time debated topic that many freelance writers have different opinions on. Some say that it is completely possible to get work done in the morning, start preparing everything you are going to need the day BEFORE, and still have an amazing Thanksgiving, or Christmas with your family.
Others on the other hand, argue that freelance writers should stop working altogether on these special occasions because like I've mentioned before, we can create our own schedule. So, it is a hard question to answer.
I would love to know what others think, and how to handle the stress that comes from working during the holidays, if writers choose to do so.
Let me know what you guys think!
